Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We believe a high-quality public education should be well within the grasp of students in every neighborhood of Denver, but we also know that for many students, that opportunity is out of reach. That’s why we extend deep into the communities we serve to become more accessible to all families who choose STRIVE Prep, including those who live down the street, around the corner and at the end of the block. 87% are eligible for free and reduced lunch, 97% students of color, 49% English language learners and 13% receive special educational services.
We meet students exactly where they are, challenging, encouraging and supporting every child with the tools and resources needed to push them beyond the limits of their previous achievements.
My Project
STRIVE prep is building a new ARTS curriculum. Our students have had limited access to arts education. These tools would provide students with the opportunity to create a painting with the necessary and proper tools. Not only will they learn how to care for their materials but use them to create an original piece of artwork.
Painting fosters our creative side and nurtures emotional growth.
Students will study color theory, care and use of materials and how painting is used to visually communicate.
The project focuses around the human connection to the creative process and how we can manipulate materials to create voice.
