My students are amazing and love creating all types of art in our art room. Our art budget is very limited so having these materials donated would open many opportunities for new experiences for my students. Our school is comprised of 515 amazing artists, many of whom come from disadvantaged households.
As a visual arts teacher, I do not go to work each day hopeful that my students will become famous artists…instead I work diligently to get them to problem solve, think more creatively, design and increase their visual literacy.
I know the skills they practice in my art room will inspire innovation, create positive change and foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
My Project
What I love most about teaching art is that creativity is nonlinear. In the arts students have the unique opportunity to achieve a desired result many ways. I have seen the most profound learning take place when students are provided with a secure environment in which they are encouraged to experiment and allowed fail. When my students discover unique solutions to problems, experiment with new materials or just have a moment in their day to get messy, these educational experiences create lasting memories!
My students need paint to complete a school wide painting project to provide a creative outlet during standardize testing week!
Standardize testing is a stressful time for so many of my students, the pressure is palpable! To alleviate some of the stress of these tests I have planned for students to create (3) 30 foot long mural style paintings! Working as collaborative teams, they will design, plan and paint on a large canvases in the sunshine. The completed mural will hang in our school for years to come!
