This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The Title I at-risk art students I service are ambitious and excited about coming to school each day. My goal is to keep motivating them to love art and have a creative outlet to express themselves! As one of the teachers in my school, I wish so badly that I could give these scholars everything they deserve to be in a learning environment that best suits them. I work at a Title I school that has about 80% free lunch and breakfast program. Some of the students struggle with having their basic needs met such as clean and well-fitting clothes and shoes, sleeping soundly at night, and getting regular meals.
My Project
Paper and quality brushes make young, elementary artists feel valued and more inspired to invest themselves in their artwork. Having these materials allows students to paint more creatively and more rigorously. Students will be allowed to free paint and free color content that communicates a certain theme. They will have choices between, above and beyond us, the human experience, the natural world, and the fantasy realm. Each student will be tasked with designing and executing a painting using one of those themes. After completing the project, they will be able to paint an additional painting of choice. Pop culture and landscapes are currently very popular themes.
