Albert Einstein wrote, “I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
My students thrive on creativity, and amaze me when they are making in the art room.
When given tools and materials, my students can bring their best to the table. They love to offer project suggestions, and describe to me how we could make things. Often these are very innovative ideas.
They each have their own styles and their imaginations get to "run wild" when they come to art. Many of them are very talented and we always refer to each other as artists. They believe in themselves, each other, and are always on the lookout for more ways to express themselves.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference in my classroom. When I arrived last year, we had limited painting materials. A lot of the paint was molded, dried up or empty. The brushes we have are falling apart, and there was no variety of paint. The money in my budget only covered very basic supplies such as paper, pencils, markers and colored pencils.
My students are noticeably more engaged and there are less interruptions when they have the materials they need from the start.
For now, my students are sharing paint in groups and I have to limit our painting projects so that each grade level has at least one opportunity to paint. My students deserve the very best and I want to provide them with more opportunities!
