My students attend a partial Title I school and are an amazing group of students. They are English language learners who love to learn and are always excited to see what it is we will be learning next. My students are a very diverse group. Where some struggle, others excel; this is what makes them special kids. They have strengths that they are always tapping into and using to help one another. It is these skills that I nurture and use as a vehicle to teach.
Their love of learning is contagious.
I often wonder, is it me inspiring them or the other way around? Their smiles and obvious concentration on projects, keep me going! I search out new engineering problems, and while I do I ask myself, "Is this really cool enough? Is this really going to be a positive learning experience and keep them engaged?" Like I said, they're amazing and already up against so much.
My Project
Each year you get a different group of students who come with their own interests and unique abilities. This is why my students need canvases, paint, foil papers and embossing blocks! The last few years I’ve noticed a huge shift in kids. They’re really into creating and making things. They’re interested in music, art and STEAM. My students are a brilliant bunch who tend to be resistant to routine and the mundane. They need (and deserve) a dynamic classroom full of these art supplies which will help them reach their learning and creativity goals. They’ve inspired me to do more project based lessons and these materials will certainly help us learn, create & grow.
