Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is nothing worse than a school with no spirit and pride. Our school is NOT one of those schools, in huge part to our Special Education students! These amazing kids have school pride and an incredible opportunity to showcase it along with their talents.
Last year, the Special Education students at our school created a climate of pride and spirit by creating their own spirit factory.
Often, Special Education students seem to get overlooked as a part of a school's community. Well, not at our high school. They have carved out their own niche and, while learning important problem solving skills, have shown their schoolmates what true school spirit is.
My Project
In order to create and solve a task, they were asked to create a school spirit poster for an upcoming rally. Who knew these students would blow things up by wanting to design, create and show more posters than we had room for?! Students asked if they could have them. Staff pressed to find out where they had come from and where they could get some. This year, the students want to continue the wave of school spirit they started. They will design and create posters for sporting events and school activities. In addition to promoting the pride, they will have to plan what the poster will look like, design it, execute their design and work with their group or partner. Additionally, they will have to keep track of orders and timelines to get each order filled on time; ensure that deliveries are made promptly and the paperwork is completed for each order. All of these skills will be taken with them into the workforce long after school is but a memory.

It will afford them an opportunity to take their personal pride in a job well done to a new level while using it to spread their school pride too.
