My students need new and unique quality art supplies to express themselves and create beauty!

I work on a large campus with two main buildings. The primary building houses six hundred students, grades K - 6. The intermediate building has four hundred 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students. We are a Title I school with a large population of English Language Learners. Many of my kids come from challenging home lives and struggle with personal and academic issues, so many of them don't have the simplest art materials at home - crayons, scissors, markers, etc.
Recent changes in public education have resulted in many hours of testing for grades K-6.
I consider it a great privilege to be able to provide my students with the opportunity to experiment with unique, quality art materials and learn to use them to express themselves and break up their day with some artistic creativity. I love it when they tell me they are asking for paints and art supplies for birthdays, etc. I know they've discovered the artist within themselves, and it gives them joy.
Quality art supplies make any piece of art that much more beautiful! Unfortunately, public school budgets don't really allow for good, quality supplies. Thanks to Donors Choose, my students have access to the best art supplies. As an artist myself, I know what a huge difference it makes when you create with the best materials. It is so easy to see, even in the youngest artists' creations. Not only does one get a better final product, using better materials makes the process so much easier and more satisfying. I can recall working with kids using the basic, inexpensive art supplies and it's as frustrating for me as it is for them.
My students have become accustomed to the best art supplies, thanks to Donors Choose.
Subsequently, our final art projects are vibrant, colorful and unique. My older students have been enjoying working on black paper lately, with metallic pens, paints and professional color pencils. The contrast on the black paper is very dramatic. I do need more metallic paint, but I think adding the gel pens will really thrill them. (They do like drama)! We have created mandalas and striking graphic insects on black paper with metallic and white, but adding the bright color pens will give them a new kick. Sixth grade have been enjoying scratchboard, too, but we've exhausted our supply.
An art room really can't have too much quality drawing paper and black pens. Both are great to use with watercolor paints.
Younger kids will love the beautiful color construction paper. We will use the paper with the new glue and scissors. Of course, they'll get to use the paint and pens, too!
