This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Imagine trying to paint autumnal colors without orange, brown or red. Try to paint a holiday scene without green, red or brown? I think not...
We are a Title I distinguished school in urban South.
Our school population is 96% free or reduced lunch, and the parents generally work minimum wage jobs if they have one. There is no money from home to provide children with their own paint set, so the school has to provide what they need.
My Project
Our students love to paint, but they cannot afford to fund their own paint sets, even if they could find a way to get them to school when they were needed. This means the school has to provide what is needed. The paint sets we have are used by all the children of my school, 650 in number. This necessitates a supply of replacement color pans be on hand for quick swap-out. There is no funding at all this year for art supplies, so your help is critical to keep our children painting.
The children of our school like to color with crayons, but there is something magical about paints that fascinate our students.
They often forgo other activities so that they can paint. With your help we can color our world with colorful self-expression.
