This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school has been known for excellent academics, building a rich heritage for many years. It has always attracted the best and the brightest students in our city. This is an application school for high-performing and gifted students, serving grades Pre-Kindergarten to 8.
My art students are very talented artists who truly love creating art.
The young artists here create excellent artwork in many mediums. Every day they impress me with unique ideas and a passion for art. Unfortunately, my art students do not have all the supplies for painting.
My Project
In my art room I teach grades k- 8 and we paint all the time. Mixing color with tempera and acrylic paint we create landscapes, portraits, animals and many other things. My students learn many styles of painting from realistic to pure abstraction. Canvas is great to paint on but most of the time we use construction paper and tag board. Construction paper works surprising well as a painting surface even with acrylic paint. So we need lots construction paper and tag board to create wonderful paintings. I find light color construction like yellow and sky blue work really well with tempera and the color can be used as background. White tag board is great with acrylic paint and my students can do almost anything. But both tag board and construction paper perfect for most any painting.
