This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Arts education aids students in skills needed in the workplace: flexibility, the ability to solve problems and communicate, the ability to learn new skills, to be creative and innovative, and to strive for excellence. " ~Joseph M. Calahan
My school is located in the community of South Central Los Angeles.
We always say, "Never, Never Give Up." I have 31 wonderful students that come to school ready to work and do their best. Our class logo is "Dedication - Hard Work." They come with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few. My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities involve STEM. Many of them are already planning to become engineers, scientists, mathematicians, etc.
My Project
Creative thinking and reasoning have been identified and highlighted as an essential twenty-first-century skill by many business, education, community and government leaders. I need these art supplies for art time twice a week. I love creating groups where my students work collaboratively to create art projects. As my students grow and develop, introducing them to the idea that the arts involve creative problem solving will teach them how to manage frustration, uncertainty and ambiguity with innovative ideas and solutions. I will also use this paint to decorate the models that my students produce from the 3D printer.
My school district can't afford an art teacher for the entire school year so these students are given these experiences until they enter high school.
At this early age their talents can be discovered, but unfortunately we cannot find that artist without giving them the time and opportunity to explore. So please help me out!
