This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, inquisitive, and excited to learn about art. I teach in an urban Title I school, with a Life Skill program. Our Artists range from grades six to eight and they are the best kids. Our school operates on a tight budget and has little to no funding for art. It’s important to me that my students have all the resources they need for class. Our current classroom furniture is old and unsafe.
As their teacher and mentor, nothing would please me more than to just hand students the art supplies they need.
My Project
The students are eager to learn and love to do hands-on activities. They are full of personality and love to laugh and have fun. If you ask the students what their favorite activity is, they will wholeheartedly tell you PAINTING! They love art and are very interested in learning how to paint and hands-on activities that they can not only be proud of but cherish. In art class, the Life skills artist are learning about line, shape and form, value, space and color. Art develops the whole child by supporting language development, physical development, spatial relations, and so much more.
