I am a Physical Education teacher in a 7-9 grade middle school. My students mean everything to me. These unprecedented times of Covid-19 and all of it's limitations have not slowed down my students gleefulness and excitement to be in my class and to be able to do something so essential not only to the health of their physical bodies but also to their mental health in these times.
While I have some students who are tremendous athletes, many students are not.
I try hard to introduce them to many different team sports, individual games and other forms of fitness. My hope is that by the time my students leave my class, they will have discovered at least 1 fitness activity they can resonate with and continue to do throughout their lives. Receiving additional equipment will allow me to expand learning opportunities within fitness that my students currently do not have.
My Project
Incorporating weight training into physical fitness is imperative to improving muscular strength, joint mobility, bone density, mental health, and self-esteem.
In our school, having virtually no weight training equipment and limited space, smaller, space saving equipment is not only ideal but essential.
The knowledge of weight training that I will be sharing with my students will not only be utilized at South Jordan Middle School during class but can be carried over to their own personal lives in their homes. During these unprecedented times with Covid-19 and the many times my students have been required to stay home and quarantine, the knowledge of strength training will help give them the tools and knowledge in another form of physical fitness. While social distancing weight training will improve their overall health and aid in their performance of team sports.
