This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are a Pre-K Classroom. The students are multi-cultural. They are, often, from low-income families and underprivileged areas. We are teaching the children during their critical formative years. Even though we are reaching them within this formative time, there is still an achievement gap.

The children are eager to learn through hands-on activities.

Most students have not been exposed to the materials that are needed to thrive and flourish. Their families are very proud, as most parents are. They, also, want the best for their children. However, the opportunities for higher-order learning are limited.

My Project

We are trying to get clear backpacks with supplies for the transition to kindergarten. It is hoped that with the supplies, the children will be able to start kindergarten with all the things that they will need. Also, the clear backpacks will go along way in regards to the safety of the children. The backpacks will have pencils, crayons, scissors and more in it. These few things will help the parents by providing these few supplies. And, with the price for clear backpacks, the parents that we serve may find it difficult to afford them. I know that the supplies and backpacks will be greatly appreciated by the children and their parents.
