Packing Tape Sculptures-Take a Second Look!

My students need clear plastic wrap and clear packing tape to create 3-Dimensional sculptures that we will display around the school to cause people to take a second look.

My Students

In my classroom creativity is encouraged as well as not being afraid to make a mistake. By the end of the school year I hope that my students are confident in pursuing their ideas without reservation and that they learn that mistakes are just opportunities to try something different!

The school I teach at is a small rural school.

I attended the school from Kindergarten through 12th grade, which is typical for most of my students. Families stay around the area and former students return to the school with their families. The students love art, my classes are packed with over 30 students in a small art room! We hardly have room to move and at the beginning of each semester I have students begging me to let them in the class. I have even had students say they will stand or sit on the floor just to be in there, and they have actually done just that. I am only at the high school for half the day so the opportunity for them to take art is sadly limited to three class periods. Everyone at the school including the teachers, administration and students truly care about and help each other when needed. The 3-D students are extremely excited about this packing tape sculpture project and would be so thankful if we were to receive the clear plastic wrap and packing tape through a donation.

My Project

The students I have in 3-Dimensional art are taking their first 3-D art class. Our plan is to get more students and staff throughout the school to notice art by creating clear packing tape sculptures of people and objects and placing them around the school. The students will work collaboratively in a group and plan a "scenario" in which they will create a packing tape sculpture of one of their group members. They will be asked to make a social commentary, such as creating a sculpture of a student on their cell phone casually sitting, and we will display the sculpture somewhere in the school. An example I gave them was having a sculpture sitting on top of the vending machine in the lunch room just to see people's reactions. The students will learn to plan, work, and execute their project in a group. They will be thinking about "pop" culture and how they can bring art awareness to the school outside of the art room.

The students are very enthusiastic when it comes to lesson plans that are "out of the ordinary." They love creating art as it is a release from the monotony of much of their day.

Without a large budget we are limited in materials and this will help the students to create something they otherwise would not be able to without this donation. I would like to say thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
