Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher working on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. I am desperately trying to get my students' parents/families more involved in their learning. What better way for a parent and child to work together than through puzzles, books and games? Thus enters the Weekend Bags!
I want to put together different weekend bags for the children to take home. The bags will be based on the following themes: penguins, dinosaurs, ocean animals, and insects. Each bag will consist of an art project, books, a plush animal, a video, a puzzle, a notebook, crayons, and a teacher-made game. The crayons and notebook will be used to complete a journal regarding their experience with the plush figure over the weekend. This will be shared with the class on Monday. Every student will have the opportunity to take home the different bags throughout the year.
I am asking for books, puzzles, videos, plush figures and some games to help me complete the bags.
I know that a key component to a child's success is the support of their parents/families. I know that these weekend bags will encourage learning, even when school is not in session.
