My students are wonderful! Most of my first graders are new to our country. Many are refugees, homeless, or live with many different people in their homes. My students are eager to learn, love school, and care for each other. We are a community of learners; a family. Together we are learning how to be students, good citizens and friends.
If you were to visit our classroom, you would not know the struggles or obstacles that my young learners face every day.
I love my students. They know they can count on me and one another. We all work together to become the best that we can be.
My Project
My 1st graders need paper so they can perfect their writing! They absolutely enjoy showing their best work to their parents and put in on display in our classroom. They enjoy receiving feedback and this motivates them to excel in their learning. They are currently practicing letter formation – a crucial component in the foundation for their future writing skills. The extra paper would be ideal when the students want to show they can write “more letters” and take it home to show their parent - but we have to tell them to practice in a notebook because the paper is reserved for other purposes.
Notebook paper is okay to practice with, but first graders cannot always successfully tear out a page without ripping it – and nobody likes to put a lot of hard work and effort only to accidently destroy it.
Our classroom also uses dry eraser markers with dry erase whiteboards – but those are limited in quantity and students are not allowed to take them home. White paper is used to practice math skills such as adding and subtracting in addition to creating artwork. It would also come in handy to make a “quick copy” of a newsletter to a parent, a graphic organizer, worksheet, or homework assignment when needed. The amount of white paper requested is for the entire school year! My white paper project serves as critical tool for learning overall. Your donation will greatly impact my students!
