My students come from diverse families of all social economic status and ethnic backgrounds. They are eager to learn in all areas including science, math, reading, art, and computer skills. My students live in the city of Tacoma. Because they are from such diverse backgrounds they have various needs academically and socially.
Our school has a special program for autistic students.
Because of this program, students learn to be tolerant of others' differences in a way that is unique to our school. This also means there are some extra challenges in our day sometimes. Getting students to work together in a kind and respectful way is imperative to their life skills.
My Project
Students will be motivated and engaged in learning the beginnings of computer science with little "robots". Kids love using technology so by bringing it into the classroom it will motivate them in all areas of the classroom. Students will have fun learning and have already started participating in unplugged lessons that lead up to working with ozobots.
Students will be able to program their ozobot to do specific tasks.
One example is putting their ozobot on a mat and spelling words. Students will have to click and drag to make their ozobot do what they want. They will have to figure out how far and for how long the ozobot moves in different directions. Students will learn from mistakes and will be able to figure out that mistakes help them learn!
