I am an elementary Media Specialist, working hard to open minds, open hearts, and open doors with my students! I teach every one of our students, grades K-5, each week in 45 minute set lessons as well as additional time when we can co-teach with their classroom teachers.
My students love their time in the library!
They pore over new books, examine new resources, and work with their hands and brains to solve problems. Our kindergartners are learning how to find and select a "best fit" book, our third graders are writing and illustrating their own haiku poetry, our fifth graders are working to solve a hypothetical disaster scenario by assembling teams of qualified real-life scientists through research.
We live in a suburban area of Maryland. Our community is growing and changing rapidly, but our elementary school is very much a community and the heart of our little town. Our students may be part of local families that have lived in the same town for generations, our growing military population, or part of one of our newer families looking for a little bit of small town life near the Bay.
My Project
Our students love computer programming and they love robotics! Ozobots are a new tool that allow for students to learn about programming logic with or without a screen. Students will learn how to use color coding to program their robots through obstacle courses and mazes, having fun while learning how to communicate in a new language!
Students will have the opportunity to use our Ozobots to enhance our library lessons.
(Can we get our Ozobots to map out the story? Can Ozobots take us on a tour of the library collection?) We'll also use the Ozobots during our Makerspace time! Makerspace is an opportunity for students to flex their creative muscles, solving problems, tinkering, and learning by doing! I can't wait to put these awesome tools to use!
