My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school with most students being English Language Learners and many of them coming from refugee camps, I have a large range of abilities in my classroom. I have some students who don't speak any English and have never been to school before all the way to students who are above first grade level.
"In teaching, you can't do the Bloom (higher level learning) stuff until you take care of the Maslow (safety, food, housing) stuff."-Alan E.
Beck
Many of my students have faced unimaginable obstacles and struggle in school because of those obstacles. Some obstacles my students have faced are violence, abuse, homelessness, and hunger, just to name a few. I try my hardest to have a classroom environment that is inviting and welcoming for all students.
My Project
My project would bring the world of hands on coding to my first grade students. My students started STEM this year, 1 day a week for special, and they are loving it.
I would love to be able to add 3 Ozobots to my classroom to help develop an interest and love of coding.
My students had the opportunity to try Ozobots during STEM week this year and they enjoyed hands on coding that was also tied to our curriculum by using code to make shapes to catch Pokemon. By adding 3 Ozobots, and the coding materials, to my classroom we will be able to extend our learning by adding STEM elements to lessons and projects while engaging very busy first graders.
