What a better way to learn through a multi-age philosophy than to teach in a school that has Pre-K-12th graders under one roof-top. That is the case in the unique school district I have the opportunity to teach in. I have a diverse age range, socio-economic range, and an ever-growing diverse ethnicity.
Students in our district are eager to learn and grow in all aspects of their learning.
They continuously strive to stay ahead of their ever-changing world.
My Project
We have shelves of books that are waiting to be read, but students do not take the time to come into our space to see what worlds are awaiting them.
By creating a cafe environment in our library space, students and staff would be more likely to stop by, grab a drink in the cafe, and settle into a comfortable place with a good book or lively conversation.
The cafe would also work to build our school community and student relationships.
The items in this project would specifically be to set up the student cafe space. The corner desk would allow students to attractively display the supplies. The design of this desk would give students the ability to create exciting displays in the space available to them. It will also help them develop business and marketing skills. The stools would be for them to have a place to sit while working.
It is not a new concept that people's productivities increases in a comfortable work environment and this aligns with that goal.
In addition, this would be a student-run business where our business classes would take ownership of the business and learn about concepts to set up, run, sustain, and create a thriving business.
This cafe corner will allow some of our students the opportunity to practice life and career skills to be employable after leaving high school in a simulated business setting. Students will practice sequencing, peer-peer work, health and hygiene, communication skills, and so much more.
Students would be able to earn school dollars to use in the cafe and staff would be required to purchase.
