Our carpet is a great meeting place, but we need more than just a comfy spot to meet! My students need an easel to display ideas, create anchor charts, have number talks, create graphic organizers, and display work. This easel would help us in every subject, every day!
I am a first year teacher at a Tennessee school.
I have a class that includes many gifted students that require more critical thinking and challenges. Students at my school are eager and ready to learn but need to be presented information in a variety of engaging ways that a simple chalkboard won't allow me to do. Our school offers a very supportive environment with many resources, but our room lacks a good way to present information in a whole group session on the carpet, which is our meeting and discussion place.
My Project
I am a first year teacher purchasing many supplies for a new classroom. My students will come to school eager to learn, but we need a place to display and discuss all their ideas and thoughts! We are a large school in Tennessee who could use some help with things that just aren't in our budget. We will be meeting on our carpet to discuss writing, talk about books, have interactive read alouds, conduct word study, and many other times throughout the day. Having this easel close to our carpet to use to enrich this time will encourage my students to share their ideas and keep them engaged. Students will be able to see how creating a visual can help them to better understand tough concepts in math and reading. We will be able to practice skills and have whole group mini lessons without being confined to desks. My students will love the more interactive meetings and discussions that this easel will allow us to have! This easel will benefit my eager to learn students in many ways.
My students will be able to use this easel to take control of their own learning.
With a tool like this, students become teachers, and that is the most powerful way to make an impact on student learning and achievement. Without this tool our discussions will be verbal or confined to desks, neither of which are effective.
