Students show a lot of determination to find a way to solve problems. The problems could be in math, reading, lunch, art, or life. As an educator, I strive to give my students the skills and materials needed to solve the problems they encounter. I have a very dynamic group of students. They have a love for learning and a willingness to attempt new pursuits.
Through DonorsChoose.org, with the help of all the amazing donors, students are able to have experiences where they learn new skills or master old ones.
When students are done with a specified task, they want to find new ways to express their learning. As a project is funded it shows students that people are invested in their success. Using the materials requested allows students to find another way to show their learning/mastery with items that might not have been available otherwise.
My Project
My students are growing up in a much different world than I did. With having that knowledge, it is important for me to find a way to make science interesting and relevant to their learning needs. I believe this project will succeed on both counts.
Utilizing the hands (gloves too) on aspect of dissecting owl pellets, my students will learn more about animals and the food chain.
The Next Generation Science Standards allow for a lot of learning each year and it stills affords teachers the flexibility to make learning science fun. I know my students will benefit from the photosynthesis games and owl pellet dissection materials on many fronts. There will be extension activities, literature referencing, mathematics, group tasks, and more due to this project.
