My students need hands-on materials for a study of the life cycle of owls and butterflies. Students will be observing live butterfly larvae and will be dissecting owl pellets.
Welcome to my learning world. We are a low-income school with approximately 70% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Approximately 1/3 of my students receive Title I services to assist in reading and math progress or Special Education services to meet their individual learning needs.
Our teachers work diligently to provide the best education for each and every student.
Our school motto, "Build Today's Learners To Become Tomorrow's Leaders," is the goal for all our students. My students are encouraged to be creative, curious, positive-minded risk takers. They know the importance of true grit, perseverance, and lifelong learning. It is my responsibility to provide my students with creative, challenging and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous. They like to move, solve math problems, read and love lots of positive attention. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I try to provide them with an ongoing learning experience that builds character, encourages teamwork and provides unlimited opportunities for learning.
My Project
My students will be using live butterfly larvae to study the life cycle of butterflies. They will be studying the life cycle and food chains of owls by dissecting actual owl pellets.
I will be receiving Painted Lady butterfly larvae and a butterfly sanctuary so that students can physically see and learn about the butterfly life cycle.
I will also be receiving owl pellets that students will physically dissect to observe and learn about what an owl eats by studying the bones that are left undigested. They will use this information to continue learning about the life cycle of owls with the flip chart and video, and the importance of every animal in a food chain.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Giving my students actual hands-on experiences by providing them with live animals will enhance the entire learning experience. Learning about the life cycles of animals and how we can affect them will also provide students with a deeper respect for the lives of all living creatures. Students always learn more when they are actually involved in the learning process. This project allows that to happen.
