This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low-income/high poverty school where 100% of the students are on free breakfast and lunch. My students come from families for whom education is a second thought. Their families are more concerned about putting food on the table and aren't able to purchase supplies for school.
My students are naturally inquisitive and have a deep desire to learn.
They are constantly asking to be taught more and more. I'm not asking for a handout for my students, I just want them to have an even playing field. They are like sponges soaking up information.
My Project
My students need owl pellets and bone sorting maps for a dissecting lab activity they will be participating in. This will help them to better understand the interdependence of living things in an interactive, engaging way. My students will be able to answer many questions about ecosystems, food chains and webs, and predators and prey. They will have the opportunity to observe, first hand, the balance of the ecosystem. There is no better way to learn about food webs then with a pile of bones and fur! Dissecting and reconstructing one of the skeletons keeps students very engaged. This unique experience is bound to leave a lasting impression on my students!
