Owl in the Shower Classroom Book Set
My students need a classroom set of "There's an Owl in the Shower." In 6th grade science we connect literacy standards with our ecosystem unit.
When did you begin reading to learn? By connecting literacy and science this helps my students enjoy reading and learning about science all at the same time.
My students are 6th and 7th graders from a small, high poverty, rural area in Michigan.
School and their teachers are the safe area and the one thing that remains constant in their lives. School gives them the opportunity to have 2 full meals, time with people who love, care and support them, a chance to learn and most importantly a place where they can be themselves.
The book "There's an Owl in the Shower" connects the science content to literacy standards. My students need improvement in both of these areas on State Assessments. By reading this book, it provides a vivid real world experience of the Owl's ecosystem and the effects humans can cause to it. Providing my students with real world experiences will help open their minds and eyes to the world that is bigger than they can imagine or bigger than they will ever see.
Learning is all about making a connecting with the content.
I provide the chance for my students to make that connection by reading "There is an Owl in the Shower" to our science and literacy standards. I would like all my students to be able to hold a copy of the book in their hand as we read through and discuss the book together.
