Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds from all around the world. They are curious about our world, how it functions and develops. They are mesmerized about animals and yearn to learn about their favorites. Engaging with hands-on learning stimulates their creativity in all areas of school and solidifies concepts needed to graduate from the 2nd grade science curriculum.
Second graders learn best when they experience real life and then have to write or explain their learning to others.
Children and animals go hand in hand for the most memorable hands-on learning. The compassion, love, and creativity that come from real life experiences with animals last a lifetime!
My Project
My students will experience the oviparous life cycles of chickens, ladybugs, and butterflies to enhance our science curriculum. Using the NGSS standards as our guide, students will keep science journals and write daily observations. Using their observations and computer research, students will create research reports. Each project will incorporate all areas of STEAM.
As we build our STEAM projects we prepare students for life long learning.
Never underestimate the simplicity of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly and watching as it emerges from a cocoon. This highly motivating science project will leave memories and a concrete understanding of life cycle science in my students forever.
