Mr. Macon from Brooklyn NY is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My classroom needs an overhead projector and screen to diversify our lessons.

I am a self-contained special education teacher. I teach 11th and 12th grade students. My students need a lot of diversity in order to learn. Most of them are visual learners and they will greatly benefit from an overhead projector. I presently make too many xerox copies which turns into too much unnecessary paper being used.
An overhead projector will benefit my class of 8 special education students by helping them all see me teach on a different and more intimate level. I teach in an 8:1:1 program. My students do not learn in the traditional textbook format. They need as many visual aids as possible. They are intrigued by anything dealing with technology. An overhead projector can be used in many ways in my classroom.
Here are just a few ways I can use an overhead projector in my classroom: First, I can teach my students how to edit their writing by seeing me work on a piece of writing and editing and reading it with a pointer. This will help them visually see and hear what I am teaching. I can photocopy my students' writing using a transparent paper and then read it out loud while we all edit the writing together. While editing we can use different color markers as well. Second example: We can do Math daily using an overhead projector. We use a textbook and a workbook daily in Math. We are learning geometry and geometry needs to be done in a way that all students can see my demonstrations. With my demos they can see me use a protractor up close and see how we line up the shapes or angles to be measured and see the precise measurements. These are just two ways I can use an overhead projector in my classroom. As a self-contained teacher who teaches all subjects, I can show you examples for every subject. An overhead projector will be an asset in my classroom for years to come.
You will make it possible for my students to visualize my lessons in a more visual, colorful, and more differentiated level than any chalkboard. Presently my students are bored with watching a blackboard. Help me bring my teaching alive with an overhead projector.
