Students from Key School come from all over the world, representing languages, such as: Spanish, Khmer, Nepali, Vietnamese, Lao, Indonesian, French, Swahili, Lingala, Burmese, Cantonese, Tagalog, Pashto, and Malay. We are proud to say that this diversity is our strength.
My students are enthusiastic and dedicated learners, but are met with challenges such as learning a new language.
They deserve an environment that sees their bilingualism/multilingualism as an asset and builds on it. After all, they are the heart of our school community!
Writing is often overlooked in the curriculum due to an emphasis on reading. However, research shows that it actually lends itself to reading. Unfortunately, when writing is implemented, students are often unmotivated to create.
I hope to help students overcome this fear of writing by providing them with resources and authentic opportunities in order to genuinely enjoy writing.
I am a firm believer in encouraging students to share THEIR stories. The primary composition notebooks will promote a developmentally appropriate approach to writing (drawing + writing), while the correction tape will provide students with an interactive way to accept and fix their mistakes when they revise their writing.
