Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Texas where most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. I see the struggles many of these children go through, many coming from impoverished homes and from hard home lives. Many of my students are being raised in single parent households
My class is filled with diverse backgrounds and a high percentage of students are from low income families.
I need your help to provide my students with everything they need to be successful. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
My Project
Instead of just giving students a binder, I would want my students to make their own notebook (textbook). Each students will need 3 loose leaf rings and colored card stock.
Making their own notebook will be more meaningful to them because it will help students take ownership of their work.
Students will create their own textbook using guided notes, sample problems worked together in class, and a lot of engaging foldables.
Textbooks are not available and are not appropriate for the learning needs of my students so I created worksheets, graphic organizers and other materials for learning. Using colored paper for foldables and unit dividers allows content areas to be color-coded which is great for visual learners and it will prepare them for life after high school. In my class students do not simply read along with a traditional textbook or take notes from the board and then work problems. Also, in math there are so many different ways to solve problems. I will use the whiteboard to show all of my students that there are so many different ways to solve problems and they can pick whichever they like. Thank you for your help!
