My students need seat pockets to hold their folders and notebooks at their own seat. It teaches them to be responsible for their own materials and saves instructional time by avoiding time wasted passing out materials.

My Students

My students come from many different backgrounds. I teach at a school of choice that allows parents to send their students to an "A" school that is not in their zone. Without schools like mine, these students would be going to "D" ranked schools. I have many students who did not go to daycare or pre-K. This is their first school experience. Some students have educated parents while others do not. They come from homes that are from poverty to middle class. They are eager to learn and love using hands-on manipulatives for learning.

My Project

The seat pockets give students ownership and responsibility. It teaches them to be good leaders by teaching them organization and time management. Students are taught how to take care of their own materials and to get what they need in a timely manner. With their supplies on the back of their chair, their materials are at their fingertips, which saves lost instructional minutes by avoiding passing out materials to 22 students. If we have more instructional minutes, I can have more time for review and enrichment activities. Students will also be able to fill out their own behavior chart and pack their own materials at the end of the day since they’ll have easier access.
