Outside Play Equipment to Promote Development and Learning
My students need outdoor play equipment like the basketball goal, water tables and tools, storage cart, balls, sand play tools, and yard play activities to maximize their gross motor skills, cooperative group play, sharing, taking turns.
We have an energetic group of students who are eager to learn through hands on activities that are play based. They are always wanting to explore new things based on the materials we have available to them. They have been busy this school year gaining independence and self-control.
Our 4/5 year olds are friendly and are able to concentrate on and persist at challenging tasks.
They have developed good relationships with me and our Instructional Assistant as well as with their peers. they often tell us that they love us and that they love school.
My Project
The time our children spend outdoors every day is important to their learning. Students observe and explore, develop muscle strength and coordination, and gain self-confidence. Proper equipment and interesting materials with clear choices of play such as shooting basketballs with friends or on a team, maximizes learning and fun.
Through functional outdoor play, the children gain knowledge in the content areas of literacy, math, science, social studies and technology which makes a difference in their learning process.
Sand and water play expands children's vocabularies and language when I introduce them to terms and ask them open-ended questions which leads to trying all sorts of possibilities.
