My students need a Create-A-Beam, plastic hoops, hoop holders, beanbags, and cones to develop their gross motor skills during our outdoor times and weekly centers.
We are teaching our children using the Montessori Method. We have beautiful classrooms full of hands-on materials inside, but are severely lacking supplies for activities to develop gross motor skills outside.
Many of our children come from low socioeconomic households with 80% receiving free/reduced rate lunches.
The children are inquisitive, excited to learn, and are eager to experience new things. Our school is in an established school district. The unique aspect of our school is our transition to teaching using the Montessori Method. We began our transition a couple of years ago and now have Montessori classrooms in transitional kindergarten through the second grade. We are seeing such an increase in growth from our students now that we are using the Montessori Method. Children understand things from the foundational level because of their use of concrete objects. Once children have mastered the concepts concretely, they are then moved to more abstract levels to continue progressing academically.
My Project
Our children will gain confidence and strength as they use these materials and participate in activities we design with them. Children will develop their ability to receive, interpret and respond successfully to sensory information. Children will cross the Create-A-Beam to work on their balance using their focus and concentration. Plastic hoops will create spaces for children to use different methods of movement through and will also be used for children to carefully toss bean bags through. We will use hoop holders to create tunnels for the children to move through, and the hoop jumpers will teach children the basics of jumping rope. Cone sets will be used to define activity areas and will sometimes have crossbars dropped in to create jumping opportunities for the children. These materials will work together to help children gain control of their movements while focusing and concentrating. With increased confidence the children will be ready for more success with learning and living.
Please help our students.
We really want to develop the whole child and these materials would be so helpful! Children will be moving and fine tuning their skills, working on concentration, and gaining self confidence. It is well known that when children feel confident and have the ability to concentrate they make huge gains! This is what we want for our children!
