Outdoor Play With Trikes To Build Gross Motor Skills
Help me give my students as well as students in Kindergarten and Preschool these trikes to engage in additional gross motor play during recess and outdoor activity time.
Students entering the Young 5's program should be 5 by September 30th. Most students entering the Young 5's program are between 4 years, 11 months and 5 years, 5 months upon the start of the school year. I have 2 groups of students with 10 students in each group. My students attend school all day, every other day on an all year alternating calendar schedule.
The students in the Young 5's program are chronologically ready to enter the school setting but may not be developmentally ready to endure the rigors of the Kindergarten curriculum.
The Young 5's program allows these students a year to develop the foundational skills needed in Language Arts to enter Kindergarten the following school year.
My Project
This project will provide students in Preschool, Young 5's, and Kindergarten some additional gross motor trikes to use during recess and outdoor activity time. Young children need to be able to exhibit a basic understanding that physical activity helps the body grow and be healthy.
Young children ages 3 to 5 need to be able to demonstrate locomotor skills with control, coordination and balance during active play.
They also need to be able to demonstrate coordination in using objects during active play and spatial awareness in physical activity or movement. The addition of these trikes will be great supplemental materials to gain this knowledge and allow students to apply these skills in a fun and enjoyable way.
Our Parent Teacher Organization has provided the funds to build a storage shed for these materials. Having these additional items will be a great way for the students to develop their gross motor skills.
