This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The families in our Title 1 school often struggle with the money to feed their families healthy foods. The students decided to create an Outdoor Learning Center to grow food for the community and teach fellow students about the science of gardening. Through donations from our teacher and a local garden center, we have been able to build five raised beds and fill them with good soil. We are ready to start implementing projects such as a vegetable garden, a green wall of plants growing in recycled containers, and science lessons for the elementary students such as scavenger hunts. We are looking forward to our Garden Club meeting weekly to maintain the garden and plan activities and events. We also plan to host a monthly community work day to encourage families to take part in caring for the garden with the hopes they will take the harvest home for their families. We hope to make this an inviting place filled with bright colors through the flowers, vegetables, and even art work! Thank you for your support!
