My Students

Each year the 6th grade students in this school go on an end of the year class trip. This trip serves as a culminating educational experience and as a celebration of their years together in elementary school before they move on to middle school. This year, we have chosen to go to an environmental/ecology "camp" for three days for team building and to support our science curriculum.

We are a very small rural school, only 50 students in total grades K-6!

These students have become very close over the years, they are like family. They are very motivated to raise enough money to go on such a special overnight trip.

My Project

This year, we took our learning outside! Once a week, we are able to do a 1.5-2 hour learning experience that we call: Outdoor Learning. This learning is connected to many different things: health/physical education, science, literacy, cooperative learning, growth mindset work, collaboration with other classes, math, etc... We explore the school's property (gardens, trails, ponds and streams, forests) and neighboring properties, but also go to other places (XC skiing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, field trips to local farms, etc...) It is rain/snow or shine, except in extreme weather circumstances.

Students will get an opportunity to use these year-long Outdoor Learning experiences and bring them to Nature's Classroom- Sargent Center!

This program will offer students a chance to explore a new environment. Also, it will allow them to use the skills and knowledge they gained during our Outdoor Learning days and apply them to new situations and new environments. It will also give them time to work as a team while doing a low and high ropes course. Lastly, it will give these students time to spend together in celebration of their years with one another before they move on to middle school.
