Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the gym. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting in physical education.
My students are eager to learn new physical activities and sports.
They are very energetic and eager to participate in all types of sports and activities.
They like to move, they are eager to learn, and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the gym, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during their time in physical education.
My Project
We have a Super Kids Day each year and we have very limited activities to participate in. If this project is funded we will have the BEST Super Kids Day ever.
We have kids who never get to participate in activities like this unless it is at school.
There is nothing more enjoyable than to see how excited the students get when we have new exciting activities for them to participate in.
We can have tug of war, sack races, scooter races, Frisbee games, and several different ball games. The students will love it!
We have a big playground area but very limited equipment to play on. This will give our students a day to remember!
