Help me give my students an Outdoor Explorer Adventure kit to investigate the world around them!
My preschool classroom is designed for children with developmental delays including speech delays. Many of my families are low income, have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and have limited resources available to them. There are families that are not able to participate with online distance learning opportunities.
The preschool families are stressed and unsure how to best meet their child's educational needs.
Preschool in the classroom was an opportunity for the children to build skills through exploration, structure, routines, and play. Now, resources are sent to families through email and various online outlets, if they are able to access them.
Distant learning in preschool has been very challenging. Many of my students are having more screen time than ever before! I want to give my preschoolers an opportunity to do something other than staying inside watching TV. With the Outdoor Exploration kits, I hope to inspire the families to go outside. The kit is full of tools to use outside including: a backpack, magnifying glass, a bug catcher, butterfly net, and more.
The sun is shining in Alaska, the snow has melted, and it is time to go outside and explore!
Many of my preschool families are nervous to go outside. I have done my best to go outside and share my Alaska adventures through my preschool social media app. I have been sharing my walks around the neighborhood, different locations in Alaska that are within driving distance, and showing signs of spring. I have been sharing pictures of insects, signs of spring, and other activities for families to do outside. I encourage my families to go out on their own Alaska adventures!
