My students need materials to help them explore the outdoors. We need nets, creature peepers, animal tracks, various camp crafts, and a camera to record their adventures.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Let's go exploring! Some of my students have never been outside the city limits. This will change this year as they create an outdoor adventure club and travel to natural areas to explore forests and ponds.
My students love to learn.
They look forward to coming to science, and I want them to continue that into life. They are from an inner city setting where their parents have done the best the can for them, but they lack the resources to reach beyond the city limits. Our neighborhood public school allows for field trip funding, but materials to use to explore while we are on those trips has a very limited budget. Disney Planet Challenge has helped fund indoor projects for our students, but this will take the students one step further on an environmental adventure.
My Project
On our field trips we will explore forests, ponds, and grassy ecosystems. We will break off into groups according to tie dyed tshirts and look for creatures and evidence of science. The students will observe their findings and create a video log of their time in the outdoors. In the classroom, we will do other camp-type activities such as lanyards and beadwork. For students who may never have set foot outside of the city, these activities may spark an interest in environmental science.
By donating to this project, you will help my students learn to explore appreciate the outdoors.
They will have experiences that they only have seen on TV or read about in books. They will tie dye tshirts, observe creatures in their magnifying containers that they catch with their nets, and create plaster animal tracks. Without your donation they will still go on the field trips and explore, but they won't be able to experience as much and create videos of their adventures.
