This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are active learners. They love to be engaged and challenged while exploring new things. An outdoor classroom will inspire them to become more competent problem solvers and critical thinkers while mastering new content.
My students are intelligent, adorable elementary-aged children with vibrant personalities.
They appreciate meaningful learning that allows them to be actively involved. They are considered 'at risk' students due to poverty and living situations.
Our school is a supportive, nurturing environment that values cognitive and personal development of students and staff.
My Project
We currently have a gazebo and small raised planting bed in the project area. With the requested materials, I will transform the outside garden area into an outdoor classroom. I will add 8 additional small raised planting beds and 6 picnic tables for work areas. We will use the gardening tools in our cultivating activities. I have also requested several decorative flags to create a warm, inviting atmosphere in our open air classroom. I envision this space as a welcoming place that inspires creativity, cooperative learning, self-discovery, and a life-long love of the outdoors.
This project will allow my students to experience outdoor surroundings while learning.
They may sit outside and observe birds or insects for a writing activity. They will use the gardening areas to study plant growth and life cycles.
