My Project
My students LOVE building with various items such as Lego bricks and bristle blocks in our STEM Bin centers. They enjoy undertaking the challenge of creating items from their task cards and then sharing their creations with their peers.
Please help me to build upon their engineering excitement by taking our STEM Bin center outside.
Our world provides natural curiosity and wonder and what better way to open my students' eyes to new possibilities than to go outside and build items using natural materials such as glass tiles, rocks, wood slices, pebbles, and sticks.
To create our outdoor learning experiences, we will have the natural building materials requested in individual containers (one for each student per challenge.) Students will use the task cards from Teachers-Pay-Teachers (I will use the ink to print the cards) and build their featured item on their trays. We will store all materials in the large container for easy mobility. We will also research ways engineers use natural design elements in constructions and how many materials they use help to protect our planet.
I cannot wait to see my students' faces as they begin to think outside-of-the-box while becoming little engineers. Through this project, they will strengthen their engineering design process skills as they build confidence knowing that the possibilities for their futures are endless.
