Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Pueblo Vista Elementary is a school with mainly low income, Hispanic students. Most of the students' parents work two or more jobs to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. Yet, these students come to school everyday and work very hard to get an education. This year the 5th grade students will participate in the outdoor education program. I am determined to give these children this opportunity. I have taken a class to this outdoor education program in the past and know the positive effect it can have on any student. It is an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives. They will attend a 5 day camp in Yosemite Valley at the Yosemite Institute. There, they will learn about environmental science, habitats of animals and the importance of respecting our world. They will also learn about themselves as this will be their first time many of the students will be away from their families. It is quite an experience for them. Currently, I am heading the fundraising for the 5th grade's outdoor education experience. We have been fundraising for the past year for this trip Unfortunately, there are two students who are not able to afford the cost of the trip. I am hoping to receive enough for these two students to participate with the rest of their classmates in the outdoor education experience. My students and I thank you in advance.
