My Students

Daily struggles with academics, behaviors, and typical peer interaction effect all students in our school, but especially those who have special needs. When these students are allowed unique ways to learn and feel proud of what they've done, it improves their social, emotional, and learning growth.

Our students are eager to learn, creative, and amazing little humans who benefit from a variety of learning experiences.

Our students with special needs, and their peers, have a desire to do well in school and learn from new opportunities and each other.

Our special education students thrive on hands-on learning experiences to help them be successful while in school. While these students will primarily be in charge of maintaining our outdoor classroom garden project, the hope is that more classrooms will get involved and peer interactions will improve.

My Project

Picture this: A group of students struggling to control their behaviors, productively taking care of a small outdoor garden, and feeling pride and joy in what they have done!

Creating an outdoor classroom area that is available to and maintained by all of our students will teach them to take ownership of their hard work, to be responsible, and to enjoy the fruits of their labor, within a unique learning space.

We would love to have an outdoor classroom and small garden center at our school to help students learn in a different type of way. With your help, this could all be possible for our students! All students, grades K-5th, will utilize and take care of this outdoor classroom area.

Our requested materials are some of the last items needed to make this mini dream come true! The garden beds will provide a learning opportunity for our students, as well the mini greenhouse. Having a rain barrel will be a great way to recycle the water, and again, another learning experience. The pads will provide comfort during reading times in the garden or while weeding and taking care of the garden. Also, providing gloves will come in real "handy" when we starting digging in the dirt.
