My students aren't just the 23 kids in my classroom. I believe that every student that walks through the doors of Plum Creek is "my kid". Our kids are working to become future world changers. Our school has over 450 students that enter our building looking for all kinds of things: love, kindness, advocacy, people who value their curiosities, etc. They want to get dirty, grow plants, read with a breeze and perform experiments. As teachers, we are in the business of supporting every student that we meet. I believe that this outdoor space will greatly benefit our students that enter our school. From our 3 year old pre-kinder kids to our 11 year old fifth grade leaders, every student deserves a safe outdoor space. This area will not only enhance curricular instruction but serve as a calming environment to practice self-regulation and mindfulness. Please help us support these students and staff.
My Project
My mission is to create an outdoor learning space for all students at Plum Creek Elementary. This space will enhance instruction and provide authentic learning. Additionally, this space will be a great refocusing area to practice calming strategies and self-regulation. Fresh air, sunlight and a safe place for mindfulness are great resources to add to our school day.
For the first phase of this project we would like to make sure there is a wide variety of seating and workspace available.
My students need quality benches and workspace for our outdoor classroom. The benches will add to the tree stump seating we have been gifted and ensure that we have storage for outdoor classroom materials. The circular storage bins will provide a beautiful hard surface for students to write on or put their feet up.
