Help me give my students an opportunity to become biomedical engineers as they explore how to prepare for an outbreak of highly contagious disease using the Outbreak Alert: Engineering a Pandemic Response kit.
My students are eager to create and collaborate! It is my goal to be sure all of their learning tools are in good working condition and provide them with a creative environment to blossom. My students like to try new things in the classroom and are excited when we step out of what most picture to be the norm. Completing work is an easy task for my students when they are given both the proper tools and environment. They are hard workers and enjoy the flexibility in the classroom. Often, I am in awe of the creativity and thought put into not only their final product but also their work leading up to the completion of that product. My students also love a good challenge and competition.
My students like to collaborate and work well together.
They are continually growing as inventors and communicators. I am proud of their resiliency and grit when working in class and on projects.
My Project
Stopping the spread of a disease is more relevant than ever within schools. This Engineering is Elementary kit will allow my students to move into the role of biomedical engineers to stop the spread of a highly contagious disease. They will use the Engineering Design Process to design an antiviral to stop a newly discovered virus from infecting a model cell.
Students will learn what it is like to be a scientist, doctor, and engineer that work to create antivirals that are designed to stop viruses.
The students will be responsible for stopping an outbreak from becoming a pandemic by responding quickly and efficiently to the virus. This kit will provide opportunities for career exploration as well as collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
