I teach in a diverse school in Maryland, north of Washington, DC, and west of Baltimore. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common - a strong desire to learn.
I love the energy, creativity, and heart power each student brings into my classroom.
My students love to explore new ideas, collaborate with one another, and work out problems on their own. Every day they surprise me with new insights and thoughtful questions.
My Project
Most teachers are always looking for ways to maximize the space in their classrooms - I’m no different. My brain is always working on the next great setup. For me, this involves removing desks and giving students multiple options for places to work. I’m no longer surprised when I see the countless ways students come up with for “sitting” in their chairs. It’s no wonder - those chairs are hard! Last year I was able to get six Flex-Space comfy floor seats, and they were a GREAT addition to my classroom! They came in handy during guided reading groups, independent reading time, and I’d like to continue to make my classroom a comfortable place for learning. With that in mind, I’m removing all desks and adding tables as well as alternative work options.
Removing desks in favor of tables and adding supply storage bins will reduce clutter AND make more space available in my classroom.
In addition, more flexible seating will give students more choices.
The items I want to add to my classroom will give students more seating options, provide storage space for items normally kept in a cluttered desk, and in general make my classroom a more comfortable, spacious, and welcoming place to be. All the better for great learning!
