Kindergarten is the place where learning begins and is a magical year that opens many doors to education! My kindergarteners come eager and ready to learn!
The first years in school help foster growth in responsible independence.
Our school, in addition to being a traditional neighborhood school, is also an ESOL school (English as a Second Language). The school population is very diverse consisting of families from all social backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures with classes that begin in Pre-Kindergarten and continue through to the 8th grade.
My Project
Kindergarten is where the learning and passion for school begins. My students spend a lot of time on the large classroom rug for calendar math, reading time, math lessons, small groups, and games. Kindergarten spends more than 60% of the day on the rug for the different lessons and activity. Over the years the rugs have wear and tear on them. Unfortunately, we are unable to get our rugs professionally scrubbed. Our current rug has seen lots of love over the years. My students would love to work on a clean, stain-free rug. My students this year and for more years to come will take pride and ownership of taking care of the rug. The vacuum cleaner will assure that the carpet will be vacuumed every day. The school vacuum is not always reliable and is currently out of service. My students will be so excited to learn with and on a new rug (the carpet we currently have has colors, the new carpet will be educational with the alphabet).
