My students are a fun, wonderful group of third graders. I have the honor of working with and learning from them each day and would not want to do anything else. They are my passion.
My students are diverse in many ways.
There are various family structures present, many low income households, military families, and families from different cultures. My students vary in their academic levels and interests as well. However, they all benefit from learning through positive experiences which is what I try to provide. My goal is to have a classroom community where students feel welcome each day and enjoy learning!
My Project
This year my district has been embarking on a new literacy journey with our students through a curriculum called Wit and Wisdom. This English language arts curriculum includes rich content and complex texts and ideas to help students rise to rigorous standards and expectations. Throughout the year, each grade level encounters four themed modules. Our current module is Outer Space! We examine art and texts to help build knowledge, gain new academic vocabulary, and become better readers and writers.
I am requesting additional texts of various genres and levels to keep my students' brains orbiting around our Outer Space theme.
I noticed that during our last module study of the sea, students were wanting to check out additional texts related to the content when we went to the library. They loved the familiarity and the ability to build more knowledge on a topic they were becoming quite the expert on! Watching students make connections and get excited about additional texts is what it's all about. Students will feel like the bright stars they are when they are able to share more about space with their peers and myself because they will have access to these texts everyday.
This list includes texts Wit and Wisdom suggests to have available for student selection and additional ones I have selected which will match my students' levels and interests. It includes a variety of genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, graphic novels), texts with inspiring stories, and important texts to space exploration's history. I am confident every student will be able to find a text he/she can read and enjoy!
We appreciate your support in helping us take our classroom library to new heights. I know these texts will help my students' knowledge and excitement soar!
