My Students

I am a first grade teacher in a wonderful school in Wisconsin. My students are very special, and I just love going to school every day to see the sparkle in their little 5- to 8-year-old eyes. I also get to connect with students of various ages during and after school. I truly have the most special job in the world and treasure every day with my students! We participate in so many fun activities throughout the year, and our hope is to add even more.

My Project

Did you know that Walt Disney had dyslexia? How about J.F. Kennedy, Stephen Spielberg, Leonardo Da Vinci, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rob Lowe? These are some of the most creative people that I have ever heard of, and they all had dyslexia!

One in five people struggle with some level of dyslexia, and they are just waiting to have their minds opened to amazing possibilities!

I worked very hard to get as much training and to read as many books as possible about dyslexia. I have attended the International Literacy Association Conference twice, the National Literacy for All Conference, and I have just recently had very extensive training through the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education in the Orton Gillingham program for dyslexia. I have also gotten my Reading Specialist License and use that in my first-grade classroom, where I have now taught for 25 years! I have invested so much time, money, and hard work into becoming trained to give my students every single opportunity that I possibly can in the area of reading, and I am reading to go!

I am requesting some super fun, multi-sensory tools like plain and colored index cards, giant push pins, dry erase pockets, a binder, loose leaf rings, poetry, and colorful pouches to give my students the opportunities they need to flourish in the area of reading! Yes, these are some very basic tools, but I can help my students to do amazing things with them, like blending phonemes and graphemes, learning about red and green words, rhyming, syllabication, writing and so many other great activities! I can't wait to get started! My students are capable of amazing things, and my families want their children to shine! Please help in any way that you can to get this project funded. Thank you!
