My classroom is a ninth grade developmental reading classroom. It is an inclusion classroom, so many of my students need extra scaffolding and support in and out of the classroom.
While poverty certainly plays a role in their views of their education, I am trying to help change my students' mindsets!
My school of approximately 2000 students is in a poverty stricken community. Ensuring my ninth graders achieve literacy goals will be a key factor in breaking the cycles poverty often holds.
My Project
In my classroom, we use a lot of creative avenues for helping students build stronger reading comprehension skills. We don't really have the resources easily available in the classroom to do some of the things we would really like to accomplish!
My students work hard to better themselves academically.
This means that they are really striving to do great work! When they accomplish great things, I like to showcase that work.
The paper cutter I ordered will allow students to cut their work down to size, when they do projects and assignments smaller than a full page. The laminator and sheets will help them preserve their work so that it can be showcased and admired! The pens will help them make their work really pop!
