Our second grade class, located in a semi rural, high poverty area, would like to reach the world with their thoughts and ideas.
Living in a semi rural, high poverty area limits out contact to a real audience. All current research says students need to have a real audience to publish for. The kids want more than just Mom, Dad and the teacher looking at their work. For some Mom and Dad are not even there for them. Second graders have trouble with writing and publishing skills and they need an alternative way to get their ideas out to a real audience.
The kids want a chance to publish for a real audience. The six headsets with microphones, one for each of our computers, will help bring an audience to them. The students will record their writing onto the computer and post it for the world to see on the Internet. Since second graders have trouble with keyboarding skills they will have the opportunity to record their reports, poems, feelings, concerns, plays, songs, and anything else. They will record their ideas on the computer then we will upload them to our class blog. We will also take their ideas and artwork and put them on a website. At both of these sites others will be able to view and respond to their work, visually, with voice and with text, giving them a real audience.
Your donation will help our second graders create real published works for a real audience. Something second graders in a rural area rarely have.
